Firsthand: Solo exhibition at the Rochester Art Center

I have been invited to exhibit at the Rochester Art Center in Rochester Minnesota as part of their 2017 RAC Emerging Artists Series. My solo exhibition, Firsthand, opens on March 23  with a reception 7 - 9pm in the 3rd Floor Gallery. I'd love to see you there! The exhibition will be on view March 23 - May 28.

You can see some of my preparation for the show on my blog. You can learn more about the Rochester Art Center by visiting their website, and RSVP to the reception on Facebook.

About the artist and exhibition:
Maps have many purposes; providing guidance in our travels, visualizing complicated demographics, or recording important patterns and political transitions. In his new exhibition, Cameron Jarvis focuses on the site specificity of aerial views, Google maps, and other sources to present, share and investigate autobiographic relationships based on important personal places. A first generation American, Jarvis uses maps as a source of inspiration to connect his current home in Cottage Grove, MN, with his Grandmother’s in Antiqua. Through the print making process, Jarvis presents the audience with an intimacy of the local that is both personal as well as universal

Solo Exhibition at Schaefer Gallery, Gustavus Adolphus College

I am happy to announce the opening of my solo exhibition at the Schaefer Gallery at Gustavus Adolphus College. The exhibition is open May 5 - 30. There will be an opening reception on Friday, May 6, 5:30-7pm. Please join me for an artist lecture on Thursday, May 5 at 4:30pm in the FAA Lecture Theater. The Schaefer Gallery is open daily 9am - 5pm.

These pieces are a continuation of the ideas from my two recent shows at Saint Mark's Episcopal Cathedral and Hillstrom Museum of Art, but with a more specific theme. These paintings and prints use imagery from Saint Peter and the Twin Cities to examine the concept of destination, and how Saint Peter functions as a destination along highway 169.

This exhibition is the culmination of a year-long internship in the Gustavus Department of Art and Art History. I've spent the last eight months working as the Studio Lab Tech, assisting professors in running the department, and working on a portfolio of new work. The environment has been very conducive to making art, and I have enjoyed the mentorship and critique of many of the artists in the department.
